Abstract
The Late Neolithic rhyta from Kouphovouno, a Neolithic and Bronze Age sett lement site near Sparta in the Peloponnese, are discussed and compared with other examples from Greece and the Balkans. The chronology of these unusual vessels is considered and also their function, which seems likely to be religious. What they tell us about contacts within and between communities at this time is then examined.
